Halloween 2018

Some brief thoughts on the latest chapter in the long running Halloween franchise.

Halloween 2018 despite its misleading title is actually a direct sequel to the '78 John Carpenter classic and not another remake. It pretends that the last several films never happened.

The Good: The Scares! This film brings back good old fashioned atmosphere and scary images instead of relying on cheap jump scares every 15 minutes like almost all Horror films do today.

The Great: Jamie Lee Curtis's performance as a seemingly paranoid old Laurie Strode

The Bad: Doctor Sartain. The actor character don't come close to Donald Pleasance's Dr. Sam Loomis. He comes off as really bad generic stereotypical Horror character. The story also comes across as a bit long winded at times taking forever to get to the plot.

The Nitpicky: Throughout the film they keep referring to Michael Myers as a serial killer. However since this film pretends that the other 6 films involving Michael Myers never happened that would make Michael a spree killer since he only did his killings throughout the course of 1 night 40 years ago instead of it being spread out throughout multiple days, months, and/or years.

Overall Consensus: Halloween 2018 is a very good film. It does a very good job at handling its original source material. However that being said I do not think that there should be a sequel to it! While the film leaves the possibility open for one I do not think it should happen due to what happens with Michael and in my opinion it is best to let the franchise go out on a good note rather than dragging it out until it becomes so stupid and cliched that not even the most hardcore fans are interested in it.
