This is the first blog of many in which I will write my opinion's of some of the most recent films out there. So I will begin with some reviews of my favorite films of this last year (2009)
1. Pixar's Up : This was my favorite film of last year for many reasons but here some of them:
1. it is an all around fun film not just limited to 1 specific age group!
2. Because it had some really great gags in the film.
3. It made you (well me at least) feel the same way you did when you were a kid watching Disney films such as Pinocchio.
4. It proved that you are never too old to have and exiting adventure.
and last and maybe least to some of you, the character Dug reminded me of my late dog Bo in many ways but especially in the character's personality
2. Star Trek: This 1 I really enjoyed having grown up with the franchise for 1 and 2 I felt that they did an EXCELLENT job on (re)casting the characters that a lot of people have known and loved for over 40 years. I also felt that they did an excellent job on writing the film and on the visual and special effects
3. District 9: This was one of the most original films I have seen in a very long time. I loved the story and the political undertones in the film and the visual effects were great too.
4. Avatar: After waiting for almost 10 years for the next James Cameron film and then wondering if all the hype over the visual effects if the story would be just as good. I felt it was the film had a really unique telling of the Dakota Wars in a SciFi/Fantasy setting. As for the Visual Effects those wee simply stunning!
. Watchmen: This 1 I felt that Zack Snyder did the Impossible and that is successfully adapting a Graphic Novel written by Alan Moore into a film that does justice and keeps the spirit of the Graphic Novel (unlike some of the other films based on some of his works such as League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) and I feel that this film will be the Superman of films based on graphic novels (meaning that the Original Superman movie with Christopher Reeve has served as the inspiration and the standard for all films based on comic book ever since). But unfortunately unless you have read the graphic novel it is based off of you will be completely lost.
